Dancers Repertory Theatre will hold 2017 auditions on Saturday, August 26th & Sunday, August 27th at Dance Arts Center Studio, Redwood City. Please come 15 minutes before audition time and to the correct audition time.
Audition and casting details
Auditions will be held by age level. Some dancers that come to their age level auditions may be asked to stay for the following audition if their age does not dictate their correct Ballet level. We will do our best to audition dancers with their correct dance levels in mind.
Parents or dancers will receive a number when they check in on the day of auditions; place the number on front of the dancer’s leotard. Dancers will wait in lobby area and will be called when it is their group’s time. Parents may wait outside or in the front lobby. Auditions are closed; no one will be permitted to watch (no exceptions).
The auditions will be run by the Artistic Director/Choreographer Coleen Duncan and other Dancers Repertory Theatre Members, who will be there to assist. We will evaluate the dancers’ technique level and performance quality.
Auditioning does not guarantee any dancer a role.
We will try to accommodate all dancers’ interests; however, due to a limited number of roles and costumes, not all dancers may be placed in the show or in their desired roles. All roles are important and provide opportunities to grow as a dancer and as a performer in a professional company. Some dancers may be cast in two or more roles.
All roles are open. Dancers must audition even if they were in the show last year. No role is automatically carried from year to year, and no dancer is automatically guaranteed a part in the show.
We will notify dancers/parents by email by Thursday August 31st regarding show casting. Each dancer is responsible for a $75 fee, due at the parents meeting. This fee covers costume cleaning, costume repair, tights, shoes, shoe dyes, costume decorations, etc. Dancers Repertory Theatre will provide all costumes, theatre costs, advertising costs, staff costs, prop and scenery costs, etc.
All casting is final and subject to the discretion of the Director/Choreographer, Coleen Duncan. If a dancer is not selected for the show, please do not contact the Director or any other studio teacher, management person, or DRT Board Member to discuss the casting.
Rehearsal and performance requirements
Putting on a production at a professional level requires a commitment from both dancers and parents. All dancers cast in ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas must attend every rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and performance. Dancers must be available for dress rehearsals and performances on both show weekends (December 2nd & 3rd and December 9th & 10th and for the mandatory theatre dress rehearsal Sunday, November 26th (Sunday after Thanksgiving). See Page 3 for show times and schedule. Rehearsals will be on Saturdays between 2:30-6:30 and Sundays between 10:00-6:00. Dancers will rehearse at scheduled group hours.
The Director will take roll at every rehearsal; any unexcused absences may result in a dancer being recast (at the Director’s discretion). Some roles will have understudies (in case of illness or emergency); dancers cast as understudies must attend all rehearsals for that role.
Dancers who are not available for every rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and performance should not audition. We will make concessions for illnesses or emergencies (at Director’s discretion). This is a professional show, produced for the public with paid professional dancers for the company roles. We expect all dancers cast in the production to be dedicated and excited, and we are looking forward to making this a wonderful success for all involved.
Thank you for auditioning!
